Audience- The readers

The target audience for my magazine would be females from 16-27. I think that the majority of the audience for this magazine would be female. Research shows that 73% of the audience of NME magazine is male, I beleive that the audience for my magazine would be the opposite to this as the magazines have similar genres but my magazine is aimed more at females than males. I think that most of the readers to this magazine would be college students as they tend to spend more money on learning about the new fashions and music.

Prezi- Music magazine front cover

Front covers

I changed the colours on the front cover of texts and background to see what would work better than others. I think that with a white background the cover looks too plain and that it would probably need more bold text to make the cover not look so minimal.

I like the green background on the cover but as the models are wearing green there isn't much of a contrast between them. The red, green, yellow and black look good together but I don't like the green background as it is too "in your face".
I also tried a purple background for the cover but i don't like the colours together as they don't work very well together.

This is my final piece for the magazine cover, I think that the colours work well together and make the cover look quite "christmasy", as it was the december issue of the cover I decided to create the christmas edition of the magazine. The red, green and white are all colours that are usually seen a lot around december/christmas time.

Q magazine - Liiar analysis

Language-
There is a medium close up image of 'Cheryl Cole' looking into the audience eyes and connecting with the audience. The masthead on the magazine is based at the top of the page, usually on a magazine the masthead would be covered by the top of the subjects head, on this magazine the masthead is based above the image dominating the celebrity. The title is based on the top left corner, there is a large red box with a large 'Q' in white based in the centre, this is eye catching and being on the left hand side means that it will be noticed when stacked on the shelfs in shops, under the title are headlines for the stories in the magazine, these are in the left third so that they are also seen when stacked in the shops.

Ideology-
The Q brand has developed a worldwide reputation as a trusted premium quality voice of musical authority amongst fans, musicians and the music industry alike. The reputation is extended through radio, TV, online. In the early years, the magazine was sub-titled "The modern guide to music and more" as it was able to set itself apart from other music magazines with its higher standards of photography and printing.
Institution- The Bauer Media Group (Bauer Verlagsgruppe) is a large German publishing company based in Hamburg, which operates in 15 countries worldwide. Since the company was founded in 1875, it has been privately-owned and under management by the Bauer family. Q started out as a music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom. Originally it was to be called Cue (named after the act of cueing a record to play), but the name was changed so that it wouldn't be mistaken for a snooker magazine

Audience- Q's audience is composed of passionate, engaged and open minded music fans driven to continually discover new music - and to use this lust for discovery to influence their friends. The audience is split 75% male to 25% female and is affluent (with 68% ABC1).

Representation-
On the cover of the magazine there is a large medium close up image of 'Cheryl Cole',  a well known pop artist, she is known for her pop/ chart music but is seen on this image as a rocker with dark make up and red lips. In her hand she has a ring on that looks like a dagger, she is touching the dagger with her tongue which shows she is ruthless and rebellious. This shows the the magazine is aimed at a youthful audience.

NME liiar analysis

Language-
On the cover of the magazine there is a large medium close up of well known rock singer, this is located in the towards the right of the magazine cutting a bit of his right shoulder off, this leaves space for the text and title in the left third.
The name of the magazine is located in the top left corner in a large bold red text, this is recognisable as each issue has this on it.
The image of Pete Doherty shows his tattoo on his chest, this shows he is youthful and rebelious. By looking at the audience Pete is able to connect with the audience to draw them in.

Ideology-
The magazine promotes new "indie" music produced by mainly white male guitar bands and solo artists with an almost 70% male audience. The magazine aspires to be one step ahead of the mainstream popular chart music by heavily featuring unknown acts or considered to be commercially successful. The magazine considers itself to be all about music and the instigator of all new trends by always looking out for the next "big thing"
NME doesn't hold a very political stance by featuring acts such as Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty
on the covers, the artists are both know for their musical talents but also are known for their rebellious nature and relationships with drugs and self-abuse
By giving free gifts such as vinyl singles the magazine indicates how they like to go against mainstream conventions. Although NME likes to stay away from the mainstream conventions the magazine has become more commercially aware by associating itself with hair styling products and promoted as a brand in the form of the NME awards.

Institution-
NME is published by IPC media, the head of publishing is Paul Cheal. The publishing industry is a british company

Audience-
The target market for NME is males around the age of 17-30. NME is read mostly by men,  73% of the readers are male, and 27% are female.
The average age of readers is 25.
The magazine is read by 411,000 per issue.

Representation-
Pete Doherty on the cover of the magazine represents rebelious youth, he is a rebelious male that is known for not really caring what the medias or publics opinions on him are, he represents this by wearing no clothes, in the image, having scruffy hair and showing off his tattoos. His scruffy hair "style" shows his individual personality and that he chooses to look. I think that he tries to represent all artists and celebrities by showing they are all just normal people, and not to worry about their actions inspiring them to be like him.

paste- front cover conventions

Language- The medium shot image on the cover shows 'Eminem'. The title is placed across the top of the page below the masthead, going from black to red(from evil to danger). The splash on the page is a square shape and the headlines are not in the conventional places on a magazine cover, although the main headline is placed in the left third the rest of the headlines are places around the image in the middle of the page.

Ideology- The ideology of Vibe magazine is to give people a positive attitude towards R'n'B and rap music. The message that Vibe are trying to give about people involved in R'n'B and rap music is that they  are not all about drugs, crime, gangsters and voilence but are serious about music.

Institution-
Vibe Lifestyle Network is the parent company of VIBE Magazine and VIBE.COM and is the premier destination for the hip-hop generation.

Audience- Vibe Lifestyle network represents over 25 sites and reaches over 19 million unique users per month. The new Vibe is the premier destination for urban music, entertainment, culture and lifestyle for the aspirational 18-34 year old.

Representation- The image of Eminem is a medium close up, he is wearing a vest top showing off him tattoos, this shows that he is rebellious and expressive. The chain he is wearing around his neck is a silver cross showing wealth and that he is religious.
