Evaluation

Evaluation of college magazine cover
My magazine cover follows the typical conventions of most popular magazine covers. I used similar layouts such as text and image sizes so that my magazine didn’t look odd when put with other magazines but the bright colours on the magazine stand out from other magazines, catching the audience’s eyes. The masthead is a bright pink colour, this connotates happiness and is also a bold colour that grabs the reader’s attention easily. The image on the cover of the magazine is a medium close up of a pupil at the college, she is holding her college folders showing that she is a pupil and is ready to learn, she is wearing casual clothing rather than wearing a uniform showing that the college is more chilled out. This appeals to the target audience as they learn that moving to the sixth form college means they have more of a ‘chilled out’ education in college. The model is stood in front of the college with a white wall behind her; I like the white background as it doesn’t distract the audience from the main features. The main headline on my magazine cover is about parties and events happening in and around the college. This attracts the audience as they learn that college can hold fun events for them to do. Most of the writing on the cover is pink and black, I think that this is effective as both of the colours stand out together against the background image and makes it easier for the audience to see.
My college magazine represents most of the first years starting college as they are all looking to be able to enjoy their new terms at college. My college tells the readers about ‘fresher’s parties’ organized for the new students to be able to socialise with each other and meet new friends at college. The magazine also mentions studying for the January exams showing that college is not just about fun and socialising with friends, even though the college talks about magazines it shows that there are enjoyable ways to learn and spend all the time revising even though it needs to be done.
The main audience for my magazine is first year students at college as it holds information about studying and events for the first years to be able to enjoy their new college, but I also think that other college students would enjoy reading the magazine as they will also learn about events being held in and around the college for them to attend to.
I tried to attract my audience by using bright vibrant colours by catching the eyes of the audience; I used teasers on the cover of the magazine so that people want to read more inside the magazine, the image on the cover was large and the model is looking into the camera connecting with the audience which make the audience feel they are more drawn in and involved with the magazine.
I have learnt more about using technologies and using construction while I was making this college magazine. The reason for this was because I was able to construct the magazine using photoshop
